Oppo Research Institute, officially released the 6G AI-Cube Intelligent Networking “which is a white paper on the artificial intelligence (AI) development plan. This white paper will discuss a more detailed vision of the design of future communication networks.
Patrick Owen, Chief Creative Officer of Oppo Indonesia explained that currently, Oppo has formed a pre-research team to conduct an initial study regarding 6G-based services and their requirements, key technologies, and system features.
“Oppo believes that 6G technology will change the way people interact with AI and leverage it as a technology that can be used by everyone. With the implementation of 6G technology, smart devices will use AI to download and apply algorithms to carry out various functions so as to bring a new, wider experience to users. At the same time, AI will also collect data for the continuous development of AI models.” said Patrick.
Patrick explained, 6G technology will apply AI algorithms appropriately and allow optimal communication connections based on the location and physical environment of the vehicle (eg: time and weather).
The vehicle will automatically download and run the AI algorithm that the existing vehicle and other devices already have. This allows the vehicle to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers during the journey.
Meanwhile, Henry Tang, Oppo Chief 5G Scientist, said that technological developments must be future-oriented. Mobile communication technology has developed quite rapidly over the last decade. The application of such communication technology is expected to begin in 2025, and its commercial application is expected to begin in 2035.
Looking ahead to 2035, Oppo expects the number of devices utilizing AI technology in the world will far exceed the human population. Therefore, 6G technology as a future communication technology must be able to meet human needs and support other AI functions.
“With this goal in mind, we have carried out preliminary technical studies and system design designs,” said Henry.
The current network can be divided into two dimensions, the control plane (CP) and the user plane (UP). The UP is responsible for the network functions that the user can directly perceive, such as speed and latency.
Meanwhile, CP has functions related to network configuration and ensuring network operation under different movement patterns and location ranges of network nodes. To make it easier to understand, UP is a vehicle that moves quickly on the road, while CP is a system that regulates traffic.
This white paper also introduces the AI Function Plane as a new dimension in the 6G network that can be applied in conjunction with the CP and UP functions to form the Intelligent Cube (AI-Cube). This unique AI-enhanced architecture will be able to increase the functionality and capabilities of the 6G network so that it can automatically optimize itself, work autonomously and dynamically, and distribute resources intelligently.
6G technology will change the way AI works, learns, interacts, and is applied in everyday life and is able to provide solutions to problems faced in AI development such as data silos and user privacy security.
To overcome some of the limitations of current AI algorithms, this white paper proposes that AI resources be divided into different domains. The deployment of AI according to the task, the application of multiple nodes, and resources in the 6G network is the right step to form an AI domain with an optimal and accurate AI model allocation strategy, enabling resource scheduling, and data sharing.
