For the first time in history, Apple offered the owners of its devices to do the repair themselves. Spare parts and special tools will be on sale.
The Self Service Repair program will be launched in early 2022 in the United States and later in other countries. Initially, owners of smartphones from the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lines will be able to take advantage of the offer, and later the self-repair option will be provided to owners of Mac computers with M1 chips, including the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini and 24-inch iMac.
It will be possible to buy spare parts for repairs in the Apple online store; first the company will sell screens, cameras and batteries for smartphones, and then other components. It will also be possible to purchase specialized tools. Apple will publish detailed instructions for home repairs on Apple’s website. The company emphasizes that the program Self Service Repair is designed for users with experience in repairing equipment, and if the instructions are followed, the devices will not be canceled from the warranty. It is not yet known whether this program will operate in Russia.
