The advancement of smartphone technology is indeed endless, specifically about folding smartphones, rolls or flexible screens, and so on, it seems that they will be ‘prima donna’ in the future.
Tasleem Arif Vice President and R&D Head of Oppo India in an interview gave a view, if Rollable device technology will become the trend of the future.
This is possible because based on its innovation, foldable screen phones can only deliver a fixed size, whereas foldable screens can be infinitely adjusted between their minimum and maximum sizes, opening up more possibilities for productivity, entertainment and everyday use.
“Rollable screens are a great concept, as they give users the freedom to choose the screen size they want and don’t just rely on 1 or 2 sizes. Which means users just have to tap on the video and the phone will automatically adjust the screen size to match the aspect ratio, providing a full-screen viewing experience every time. Or, when reading e-books or editing documents, the larger size provides a more enjoyable reading experience. Meanwhile, pop-up messages that appear while playing games can also present complete messages without disturbing the game screen,” said Tasleem.
When presenting a roll-screen solution, Tasleem said that Oppo presented a device that was human-centered towards innovation.
“The Oppo X 2021 rollable concept handset showcases our cutting-edge exploration towards a more intuitive & user-friendly interactive experience. With the Oppo X 2021, we have made significant advances in rollable technology. As a concept technology, the device has received a lot of appreciation from experts and technology enthusiasts around the world. Our exploration and thinking in this future technology is a continuous process,” he said.
And what’s interesting is that in 2021, it is predicted that there will be a cellphone with a folding screen appearing, because not only Samsung, various competing brands such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Honor, Huawei, Oppo were previously reported to have had their respective ammunition related to these products.
Previously in 2020, Samsung took the lead where based on data from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) revealed that Samsung’s market share in the realm of foldable smartphones was projected to reach 80%, and was followed by competitors who were still limited at that time, namely Motorola and Huawei.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the best-selling foldable phone of 2020, followed by the Z Fold2 and the Motorola Razr 5G. From this data it can be concluded that Samsung looks to have a strong foundation in the foldable phone landscape for the time.
And it’s undeniable, maybe in 2021 the competition map in the foldable phone class will change as many brands are also working on cellphones with similar technology.
