Canva is familiar to people, many of whom use this graphic design platform for business or personal purposes. Co-founder of Canva, Melanie Perkins, was named the richest woman under 40 years old.
The company that Melanie and her husband, Cliff Obrecht, founded, managed to score a valuation of USD 49 billion.
“We want to build one of the most valuable companies in the world,” said the 34-year-old woman.
Melanie Perkins and her husband, each have a net worth of USD 5.9 million.
That achievement made her become richest woman number two in Australia, behind Gina Rinehart who has USD17.9. Rinehart’s wealth was obtained from the iron ore business.
Not forgetting the people around them, Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht are planning to donate a large portion of their stake in Canva. Later, the funds will be channeled through a foundation under the auspices of the company, the Canva Foundation.
“It’s weird when people call us billionaires when we never think it’s our money. We always feel we are purely just looking after, it has been our goal from the start to give this wealth away,” Melanie explained.
Canva was born from the problems experienced by Melanie Perkins. When she was 19 years old and teaching computer design, she realized how difficult it was to design and print something. She really wanted to make things simpler.
She then focused on the yearbook design company Fusion Yearbooks, which she founded in her living room. Then in mid-2012, Melanie Perkins met with Cliff Obrecht and founded Canva, until it finally succeeded as it is today.
