DuckDuckGo launches complete anti-spyware protection on Android

The developers of the private search service DuckDuckGo announced the launch of a new feature – “Tracking Protection for Android”. This was reported at Gizmodo.

The new feature will become part of the proprietary Android browser of the same name – DuckDuckGo. Previously, the authors of the project have already added another privacy function to it – protecting the email address from spam.

Tracking Protection for Android will act as a firewall, or intermediary, between any application installed on your smartphone and the Internet. The application will filter out all hidden third-party advertising trackers and markers, with the help of which the software usually tracks user actions and exchanges data with each other. DuckDuckGo will even allow you to view the feed in real time with all trackers that are currently trying to check your activity and cannot do so.

The principle of this feature is similar to how Tracking Protection works in iOS 15. Apple’s system also blocks cross-tracking inside the built-in Safari browser, and also prevents third-party applications from sharing information about user activity.

The new DuckDuckGo feature has a limitation. Tracking Protection will only be able to block trackers known to the DuckDuckGo team. At the same time, the developers note that the database will be constantly replenished and new inventions of advertising services will definitely be included in the “black list” of the “duck”. In addition, the function may not work with all applications – this is obvious, since the developers of DuckDuckGo cannot vouch for other vendors, but work on the “as is” principle. It is noted that trackers are not yet blocked in mobile games.

At the moment, the function has started in beta test status and is not yet available to everyone. If you want to try it, then download the DuckDuckGo browser for Android, open “Settings” and enter the “waiting list” – when the chip is available in your region, the browser will send you a notification about it.
