Facebook plans to change its name

Facebook plans to change its name for the first time in its history. This is reported by the foreign resource 9to5Mac with reference to an anonymous insider.

According to the source, Facebook wants to make its product tree more transparent. At the moment, Facebook = “social network” in the understanding of an ordinary user. However, for several years now, this company has been acting not just as a social network, but as a parent brand for several other popular products. As noted by the media, at the moment the word facebook, written in small letters, stands for a social network, and FACEBOOK (in capital letters) stands for the parent company.

Just as Alphabet is the mother of Google, YouTube and other services, Facebook will rename itself Horizon and become the parent brand for Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and others. The names of the subsidiaries themselves will remain unchanged. An anonymous source believes that Mark Zuckerberg will announce this update at the next Facebook conference – it will be held on October 28.

The media say the new name will help people see more than a social network on Facebook – Horizon will be positioned as a “metaverse,” whatever that means. By the way, the company may soon introduce a new VR device under the Roblox brand, which can answer most of the questions on this topic.

While VK, having renamed itself, perhaps made it even more difficult to identify itself and its services, Facebook is acting more logically – in the new coordinate system, the tree of companies and brand services will be even more clearly visible. True, all this is unlikely to change the company’s reputation – it doesn’t matter under what name.

Earlier, we talked about the fact that Google has introduced two new smartphones: Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The devices turned out to be very unusual – while Google regretted the most important feature of the Photo service for them.
