Facebook plans to hire 10,000 employees in the European Union over the next five years to help build metaverse, an online world where everyone communicates in a virtual space.
That would be a significant step for Facebook, as Mark Zuckerberg has touted in recent months.
In September, Facebook allocated 50 million US dollars for metaverse.
Previously, Facebook also launched a remote work app trial virtual-reality (VR), where Oculus Quest 2 headset users can meet an avatar version of themselves.
Facebook also said in July that it was creating a product team to work on metaverse which will become part of Facebook Reality Labs.
“This investment is a vote of confidence in the strength of the European technology industry and its potential. Europe is very important to Facebook,” the company said.
