The 5G era will bring AR (Augmented Reality) technology to life and vice versa, AR will spark the 5G surge.
This was conveyed by Huawei Carrier BG Chief Marketing Officer Bob Cai in his speech entitled “5G + AR, Turning Dreams into Reality.” at the Huawei Better World Summit for 5G + AR,
On that occasion, the Chinese technology giant announced the release of a white paper entitled ‘AR Insight and Application Practice White Paper,’ which explores the AR industry from the device, application, and network side.
Cai also called on all industry players to strengthen cooperation to build a 5G + AR ecosystem that brings prosperity to mankind.
AR technology drives cutting-edge technology at the forefront
In line with findings from third parties, Huawei also predicts that
The AR market will reach up to US$300 billion by 2025.
“The first massive AR adoption will be seen in five industries
priorities, namely education, social networking, shopping, business travel and navigation,
and games,” added Cai. “AR is really going to be the enabler to happen
convergence between the physical and digital worlds, making dreams come true
Communication becomes more efficient with AR technology
Cai also presented a number of case studies of Huawei’s AR implementation. The current global COVID-19 pandemic is preventing customers from visiting in-person demonstration locations for Huawei products and solutions. Therefore, Huawei is using AR technology to demonstrate it online,
so that communication can be established more efficiently.
Huawei is also using AR to speed up 5G BTS setup. This method is expected to be able to increase efficiency in every 5G BTS construction and preparation.
Huawei simplifies AR
At the event, Cai demonstrated his skill in Huawei’s ability to ‘produce’ AR. Huawei Air Photo uses a unique algorithm to
convert 2D photos into digital 3D models. This method is considered capable
simplifies modeling of AR characters in 3D mode. Cai then introduced the cutting-edge Huawei AR Engine solution, a platform for
Huawei’s own AR technology development.
This platform is oriented towards mobile devices. With the Huawei AR Engine, developers only need to write 10 lines of code to create AR effects.
This way is much more efficient for developing AR applications.
All industry players are expected to join hands in supporting
the establishment of a 5G + AR ecosystem.
He Chengjian, Director of the Shenzhen Communications Management Bureau, said that Shenzhen has succeeded in becoming the first city in the world to be fully covered by SA’s 5G network. ICT services represented by AR technology have the potential to be adopted by all lines of industry, such as industrial production, e-commerce, housing, home decoration, culture, sports, tourism, health services, to education. AR applications are becoming the main driving force in digital transformation, changing how production processes are run, to everyday life.
Closing his speech, Cai said, “If you want to get to your destination quickly, go alone; but if you want to go far, travel together. AR development requires collaboration from all industry players for the realization of a 5G + AR value chain that brings prosperity to all mankind. The combination of AR and 5G technology comes at the right time. 5G
will turn on AR technology and vice versa, AR will ignite
5G turbulence. ”
