Apple hasn’t changed the design of the iPad mini since the first generation, which was introduced in 2012, but that should change with the iPad mini 6. The new device will get a fresh design, narrow bezels and get rid of the Home button.
iPad mini of the sixth generation will lose the Home button and get a design similar to the iPad Air, and the Touch ID sensor will move to the side of the power button. The display bezels will become thin, and the bezel itself will be uniform, it is expected that the screen diagonal will grow slightly and will be from 8.3 to 9 inches. It’s not clear whether the new device will get a USB-C port or continue to use the Lightning connector.
Based on the mockup photo of the case maker, the iPad mini 6 may have the volume buttons on the top of the tablet rather than the right side, which would be a major design change.
Insider Jon Prosser shared renderings of what the sixth generation iPad mini supposedly will look like. It features an edge-to-edge display and a USB-C port.
Prosser says the iPad mini 6 will measure 206.3mm x 137.8mm x 6.1mm, and will get support for the Apple Pencil, which will be more compact.
The iPad mini 6 is rumored to be powered by Apple’s A14 Bionic processor, which powers the iPhone 12 line of smartphones.
Back in 2020, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple is working on an iPad mini with a mini-LED display, the device was supposed to debut at the end of the year, but that did not happen, and the rumors died down until DigiTimes did not announce in July 2021 that the iPad mini 6 would be equipped with mini-LED screens.
Unfortunately, analyst and research founder Ross Young believes DigiTimes’ information is inaccurate and says the iPad mini 6 will not feature a mini-LED display.
Young said he contacted Radiant Opto-Electronics, which DigiTimes said was supposed to supply Apple displays for the new iPad mini. They introduced the display supplier company, officially confirmed that the compact tablet will not receive a mini-LED screen in 2021.
The iPad mini 6 is due for release this fall, but no specific date is known. Apple is set to host an event in September that will showcase the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7, but the iPad mini 6 will likely be announced later in October or November.
