We already wrote that Nvidia is preparing an updated version of the mid-level GeForce RTX 3060 video card with a new chip, new drivers and new protection against mining at the hardware and software levels, which may well allow gamers to finally get a fast gaming video card for adequate money.

Now, new information suggests that the company will not stop at the updated RTX 3060: according to the Hardwaretimes resource, Nvidia is preparing a powerful RTX 3080 Ti based on the GA102-302 video chip. Recall that this video card should have slightly fewer CUDA computing cores than the top-end RTX 3090, and half the memory (12 GB versus 24), which makes it an ideal solution for gaming even in 4K, while the theoretical price tag for it should be significantly lower than on the RTX 3090.

The main difference between the new GA102-302 chip and the GA102-300, which is used in the RTX 3090, is the improved protection against mining, and the new GPU will require new drivers. Interestingly, pre-release samples of the new chip have already been sent to manufacturers so that they can start making video cards, that is, there is not much time left until the release of the new product.

And most importantly, tests show that protection against ether mining actually works. At the same time, an attempt to flash the Video BIOS from an old chip without “anti-mining” does not lead to anything – the chips have different identifiers, which cannot be changed by software. So there is a chance that the RTX 3080 Ti can actually be bought freely in stores.
