Qualcomm has announced a new chip called Snapdragon 778G. The 6nm chipset is a new variant of the more powerful Snapdragon 780G chipset, which was announced in March. Launching a famous secret from China’s Weibo, the Honor 50 could be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 778G 5G mobile platform.

With the part number SM7325, the Snapdragon 778G 5G is equipped with a custom-made Kryo 670 CPU by Cortex-A78, and reaches a speed of 2.4 GHz. The SoC includes Adreno 642L graphics, which brings support for Vulkan 1.1, OpenGL 3S 3.1, OpenCL 2.0 FP, HDR10 +, and HDR10.

Later, smartphones supported by the SD778G chip can support Full HD + resolution with a refresh rate of 144Hz, up to 10-bit color depth, and the Rec2020 color gamut. For AI, it will feature the 6th AI engine with the Hexagon 770 processor, which has 12 TOPS performance. As for the upgraded games, it comes with Snapdragon Elite Gaming features.

When it comes to ISPs, the Snapdragon 778G offers a triple tier 14-bit Spectra 570 ISP. It supports single cameras up to 192MP, dual camera systems up to 36MP + 22MP, as well as triple camera systems up to 22MP.

Apart from that, the ISP also supports 10-bit HDR HEIF / HEIC photo capture, AI-based autofocus, multi-frame noise reduction, 720p / 240fps slow motion video recording, HDR10, HDR10 +, and HLG.

Then for 5G connectivity, it features the Snapdragon X53 5G RF-modem system which promises a peak download speed of 3.3Gbps. It supports 5G mmWave spectrum (400Mhz bandwidth with 2 × 2 MIMO) and sub-6 GHz (100Mhz bandwidth with 4 × 4 MIMO), also supports up to Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, dual frequency GPS, USB 3.1, and USB-C.

Regarding security, it comes with support for Qualcomm 3D Sonic and 3D Sonic Max fingerprint scanners, and also supports other biometric authentication such as iris, voice, and face. While the Snapdragon 780G supports Quick Charge 4+ fast charging, the Snapdragon 778G has come with support for the faster Quick Charge 5 technology.
