Qualcomm has made a presentation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform, which will be used in flagship smartphones and tablets.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is assembled at the Samsung factory using a 4-nanometer process technology on the ARM v9 architecture and consists of eight cores: a super-core Cortex-X2 with a maximum clock speed of 3 GHz, three high-performance Cortex-A710 cores with a frequency of 2.5 GHz and four energy-efficient cores Cortex A510 @ 1.8 GHz. In comparison with Snapdragon 888, the new product has become 20% more productive, and energy efficiency has increased by 30%. Integrated Adreno graphics are 30% more efficient and 25% more energy efficient.
One of the features of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the presence of a Snapdragon X65 5G modem, which provides data exchange in fifth generation communication networks at speeds up to 10 gigabits per second. The new AI chip is 70% more efficient than its predecessor.
The built-in image processing chip will allow smartphones to shoot continuously at resolutions up to 12 megapixels at up to 240 frames per second, while simultaneously recording video at resolutions up to 8K. It supports image sensors with a resolution of up to 200 megapixels, and in HDR mode, one image can be formed from 30 frames.
Smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 can be equipped with Quad HD + screens with refresh rates up to 144 Hz or 4K matrices with refresh rates up to 60 Hz. They can be equipped with an ultrasonic finger scanner, LPDDR5-3200 standard RAM, a charging module with Quick Charge 5 support, Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E modules, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, USB 3.1, Bluetooth LE Audio and GPS navigation systems , GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo and NavIC.
The first devices based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be announced in the coming weeks, and they will be on sale in early 2022. The very first smartphone with this processor will be the Xiaomi 12, which the manufacturer has already announced on social media.
