Soon, WhatsApp will be able to send and receive money in cryptocurrency. Initially, it will only be available in the United States.
The Novi e-wallet will be integrated into WhatsApp. It’s already available to some of the users of this messenger in the United States. You do not need to pay a fee for transferring and receiving funds.
Sending cryptocurrency is not much different from sending files: in the chat window, you need to click on the button with the “plus” sign, select the “Payment” item and indicate the amount you want to send. As with correspondence, WhatsApp transaction information is end-to-end encrypted.
It is known that Pavel Durov also wanted to integrate into Telegram a payment system based on the Gram cryptocurrency and the TON blockchain network. He had already attracted investor funds for this purpose, but the US authorities prohibited him from issuing cryptocurrency, so the TON project was closed.
